Last year I started ordering spikes in large quantities by mail. My issue was I had to keep reordering. How do you guys keep your live bait healthy?

I buy them in bulk too. I have the large bait puck from strike master that I keep them in. and keep them in the refrigerator. They die if they get warm so keep them refrigerated! I use them up before they die!

I have used Vados Bait for a number of years with excellent service, keep the spikes in the coldest part of your fridge, the bottom back is where I keep mine and they last for months.

Yes it is possible, I keep mine next to a window in the lower level of our house, it is probably around 50 degrees give or take. I also clean out the dead ones once a week.

My fishing buddies dad orders spikes in large quantity and puts most of them in a resealable plastic bag. He squeezes out as much air as possible without crushing the spikes. He takes out what he needs and squeezes the air out each time. Any shelf in the refrigerator works then.

I have played with that concept for the last 5 years. I have a cooler I keep in the garage with a heater element, in this case an old heating pad and a thermostat. I have run temps from 45 to 62 degrees and have found it seems to be best if you can keep them around the 52 to 56 degree zone. Also, a great source is the web at the how to raise wax worms sites. They give a lot of great info about getting the most from the life of these little bugs. Good luck.
