A large portion of my time on the ice is spent trying get a reaction out of ole marble eyes on Mille Lacs… As Granrud already discussed ( The simple 1/8 oz Spoon) there are many many variables that go into choosing the right spoon for the job on any given day, BUT if you were only allowed to bring one spoon for a walleye trip what would it be?

After the success I had with it last year on Mille Lacs I’d have to go with an Silver/Chartreuse Slender Spoon.

I have grown fond of 1/8oz Lightining Spoons in either clown or blue.

Typically with a flasher. My guess is that because of how the slender spoons flutter it was going outside of your flasher cone… Were you using the narrow beam (NBT) setting for the transducer?

Personally, I feel that the slender body of these spoons offers a much slower fall rate, which allows me to fish these spoon much slower than other spoons on the market.

I really like fishing these spoons when I’m up against neutral/negative fish or highly pressured fish.

I agree 100% with Justin. I’ll typically have a rod rigged up with faster dropping spoon such as a macho minnow, buckshot, or rattlin’ flyer, that I use for quickly for covering water and drawing in fish, but as soon as a mark shows up but won’t commit I switch over to the slender spoon to close the deal. The slow flutter can ofter turn even the most tight-lipped pruds into a willing subject for my next photo op

The gold Do-Jigger with the day glow lightning bolt.

I was in Cabela’s Roger MN store Sunday to pick up some Slender Spoons. Almost none in stock. The display was full of empty pegs with tags on them. Are these in short supply? In the 1/8 oz size all they had was copper color with red patch. I hope that ones works on LotW.

I’m seeing this topic a bit late I know, but the only spoon I used last year was a 5/8oz Trout-n- Pout spoon in green glow. It caught everything from perch to nice eyes and yes even a pout or two.
