Do those reels have a decent drag that will fight fish or are they made to be used for shallow fishing?

I picked up a couple of them. The drag feels really good. The ability to free spool line with the lightest jigs is going to be great.

We will be doing a video comparison as soon the 13 version shows up at the retailer (pre order), same jig free spool test, drag quality, weight, pro’s and cons of each, etc. I’m real interested to see to results of this unbiased test. I think the free spool test will be the best, will the aluminum spool on the 13 spool cause more drag in free spool or will the Eagle Claw graphite spool rotate with less jig weight…good bearings or mediocre on both? Cage match between David and Goliath We will see. It’s going to cost us $130 to do it, but its worth it due to the popularity of both products…and I want both on rods asap preferably with big gills on the end lol.

From what I understand there are some of these reels in some
Gander stores out of MN-WI area (mainly out east). Each store
supposedly got 6 reels and some combo’s. Eagle Claw is sold
    out.

Like many cheap reels I think they will hold up fine for small fish. We’ll see. They sure look nice.

I still am raving about the value of these reels!
    Yes its not aluminum.
But for the features it packs and the price, it compares to nothing on the market dollar for dollar. Not even the Black Betty 6061.
The Eagle Claw’s make me even more excited for my two 6061s on order thru Dean!!

I have been using one on several trips now. It has been a real jewell to use. The free fall is super. Drag is also great. You can tell when the drag is slipping by the feel of the rewind handle. When the drag slips you feel it and adjust to it. What i find the most pleasure is the lack of effort to reel in fighting fish. I have been fishing jumbo white pearch that are up to 1 1/2 lbs with a fight to write home about. Its not fair to the fish how great this reel works. Can,t wait to get a 10lb Pike on the line. I mounted one up to a Fenwick 28in ML jig rod and the reel handled those Whites like a they were bait.

I still can’t get past my original straight line reels. I use Okuma 2/3 fly reels and they are fantastic and at a price point that’s there and these are proven. Plus I am having a hard time with the drop down “stem” or “arm” on the mount of these. It’s gonna take some hard talking to get my Okuma’s out of my hand.

although I have a pair of almost every “new” reel for this year, I still agree, the stem isnt giving me the “Oh my gosh, I need to switch all me reels to raised foot reels” feeling. I run the okumas as well and love them. the winning key for the EC and 6061 for me is the multiplier rather than the raised foot. I do like that feature.

I just placed an EC order, I think it’s a great test reel to see if the idea of the 6061 will be worth the $$, if not, i’m only out $30

To make it clear, I fish in pretty shallow water, the multiplier to me is not a big issue. If I get deeper than 10 feet it’s fairly rare.

Its just not the multiplier, its the features of a drag and free spool that makes it shine bright over standard fly reels. Depending on the presentation and lake your fishing your not always going to be in 10 fow. I spend a good chunk of my time pulling line to drop my lure last season in 20-30 fow chasing finicky slabs & perch with a typical fly reel. With the EC or BB 6061 you no longer have to hassle with that. Fish arent always in 10 fow in every lake.
