I have to outfit my new to me grizzly and wanted to hear what people have and like/dislike for auger mounts. The mad dog is most appealing to me and I’m not a big fan of the digger anchor mount cause it doesn’t support the power head.

The digger does support the auger head, I have one and it works really good.

I’m really curious how yours supports the power head? They clamp the auger bit down very well, but the power head is dangling off the side of the mount on every one I have seen. Over half of the weight of the auger is in the power head.

There is a bracket that is underneath that the head rests on. I think the older ones did not have this. The new ones do.

Ok, that makes sense. It’s funny that they don’t have any pictures showing that on their website, just the older ones.

I use a Mad Dog carrier that is jerryrigged on removeable posts. They hold an auger exceptionally well, supporting the head, but do use velcro straps on the power head side and this requires a person to take off their gloves to use. I’ve been very pleased. Elsewhere in this forum, there is a link to them on sale at Cabelas…it’s a no brainer in my opinion.

You’d think they would change their collateral as that’s one of their major complaints. Otherwise, I’ve heard they’re a good carrier as well.

I agree with what Chris says above. I have a Magnum and a Jiffy auger and it works well. I mount the auger on my 4 wheeler at home and tow it on an open trailer up to 65 mph w/o any trouble.

    Thanks Mark.

It looks like the mad dog lays the auger on its side? If this is true you shouldnt use that mount with a strike lite auger, because it needs to have the gas tank down when moving or sitting on the ground.
