    JIGGLER LONG ROD

I was checking these out at the local big store and by the looks of it I like what I see !!!

$40 retail is easy on the pocket book and fits exactly the way I fish the backwaters of the Mississippi…. SHALLOW !!!

Light Action and Ultra Light action… 48″ and 54″

I look forward to putting these to the test and when I do I’ll post up !!

Sweet!! I have two old long jigging poles that I love to go hole hopping with. Good time to stop, jig and b.s. with other ice fisherman.

I have looked at these also. One of my concerns is how it will hold up with ice build up on the spring and pole.

I have used similar poles that Blue Fleck has made for me… He does a fantastic job and the tip is similar… No issues with the tip freezing up as the use is at 6′ of water or less,,, mostly less so no 20′ of line to reel in each time..

most of the time when i see these being used, they are fished around 6 feet or less so they don’t even have to reel them once you hook a fish. the people I met that use them swear by them for sight fishing, saying you spook the fish less when you are farther away from the hole.

How can you sight fish with such a long rod?

Seen a similar rod in a local shop in Lancaster and I thought it said they are made in Prarie. Looked like a good hole hopping rod for 10 fow or less.

that was my thoughts exactly. you really are not seeing anything unless you drill another hole next to the other one and use that one to look thru, but with the rod they let me try, you felt every little thing.

I have a similar rod that is great except that it has no drag. It looks like this one doesn’t either. You don’t have a chance with big fish.

Reading farther I see that it does have a drag. That should be a great pole.

Had one in my hand at thornes during the early ice event. Felt pretty nice. One of the displays had the spring bobber broken off already. It appeared that they were shrink wrapped on. The reel is tiny. Bro said he mostly used the rod to raise the fish into the hole and just reach down and grab it when testing them.

These rods should be phenomenal, a drag system is key to making this a great setup. For those who have no experience with these, it is an unbelievable ‘feel bite’ rod since the line runs through the blank, I have loved all my rods similar to this one. Love the ingenuity behind this rod should be an instant favorite in shallow water less than 7 feet. I would take off the factory spring tip and replace it with another preferable spring bobber with a shrink tube. I like ones with larger eyes to avoid freeze-ups.

I think the drag is way overrated on these poles. They are primarily designed for panfish in shallow water. The spools on these rods don’t hold a massive amount of line so letting a fish take out alot of line really isn’t an option. The other problem is the spool is so small that reeling a fish in is also problematic. THe best drag on these poles is an educated right arm (or left arm for us lefties), alot of nice bass have been caught on these rods knowing when to give ground during their runs. First and last ice are a bit of a challenge though when the fish have more hops.

If you can keep your head and unlatch the handle on that HT Stillfish reel you can fight some amazing fish. I fought a northern for 15 long minutes only to find out we couldn’t even get the head turned into a 6″ hole.
I’ll try to attach a photo of one of three legal bass my wife landed last December on 2 lb Stren Hi-Vis Gold

I’d be curious how well the drag system works on these poles. The reason I do not fish with the Pulsator as much any more is because of the lack of a drag system.

I may pick up a Jiggler yet because I have a gift card for Gander, but when I picked one up and handled it,(54″), I wished it was longer and the reel made it feel butt heavy.
On the other hand, when I take out other guys who are not used to the Still Fish reels on my homemade long rods I’ll save a bunch of homemade Rockers and Cecils and we’ll have fewer bass wearing lip jewelry.
