I thought the days of promo’s not being available to us north of the border were pretty much a thing of the past.Ice Force is offering a “free” tackle pack with the purchase of certain Marcum product’s U.S. only leaving us poor canucks out in the cold.

During the past 10 years since I have taken up ice fishing I have purchased 4 flashers, all Marcum starting with an LX2, two LX3’S, and an Lx7. I sold the LX7,and my last LX3 with the intention of getting two LX5’s.

I may now give the Ice 55’s a try as there promo is good on both side’s of the border, glad I didn’t get that Marcum tattoo.

I would agree if they are marketing to you through a Canadian source. Where did you see this promo ?

It’s just a guess but shipping is very difficult to Canada with some items. We use a repair facility in Canada to repair some of our parts. We have had items caught up in customs for weeks. It would be a real headache for them to deal with this on every kit sent up there. Like I said earlier, it’s just a guess.

I mentioned these delays to our Fed Ex driver that comes in everyday. He said he would rather ship ten boxes of guns to Mexico than one flower bouquet to Canada. He said the Mexico shipment would have the best odds to arrive on time without custom delays.

Why would you want to go from Marcum to Hummingbird? Thats like going from BMW to Chevy.

Here’s my understanding of it. Rapala has different divisions and for obvious reasons they’re none too interested in competing with each other.

Rapala USA is behind Ice Force. Rapala USA is putting on the ice fishing tackle promo. Rapala Canada can do the same thing but it would be a separate promo featuring Rapala Canada products. Rapala USA is limited to marketing in… you guessed it… the USA.

My understanding is the only place someone from Canada is going to run across that promo is online where info flows freely across borders without consideration for who’s consuming it or their geographic location.

On the other hand you’ll likely see same/ similar promos done by Rapala Canada in the future… and if this is the case, us Yanks won’t be eligible for those in much the same way we can’t order Rapala Canada tackle and have it shipped into the US.

If this was a MarCum rebate promgram similar to the Humminbird offer the promo would be open to anyone, including customers in Canada. But that’s not what this is.

Welcome to the reality of multi-national companies.

It was seen on U.S. sites, as far as border issues I can’t see that being a issue, James is bang on, there is a Rapala Canada and Rapala U.S. Had I not seen the issue being discussed on a local fishing forum I would have sent the form in. I am sure they are well aware of the cross border shopping and made a provision. There are many corporations that have a division in both the U.S. and Canada and the only difference is where you send the rebate form.

Just for kicks, and to further reinforce how much separation there is between Rapala divisions, check this out: http://www.rapala.ca/products/icefishing/ice_landing.php

It is very interesting to see all the Canadian products that we’ll never see here in the states.

Wasnt there a SWEEEET Stihl ice auger only available in Canada? I remember the pics.

I believe there was. And different ice houses, lures… the offerings are quite different.

And that comes back to the issue at hand… you can’t get one of those augers here in the US without driving to Canada, buying it and driving it back across the border. I know several guys that looked into buying one for curiosity sake and retailers absolutely WILL NOT ship them into the US. And they’re CRAZY expensive.

That drill on the Husky looks very familiar…
I looked into purchasing one of these last winter while visiting the in-laws in Ontario, I passed as this auger was close to 800 bucks.

That’s scary fast. I’d sure make sure nothing loose gets into the auger when it was running.
