Taking off from the discussion on the multiplier reel about James’ new rod; I’m looking at Dean’s site and the photo only shows 4 guides. Anyone know how many guides the Tuned Up guys are putting standard on the 32, 34 and 36″ rods?

I see a couple of other sites (korky’s and ice fishing maniac) that show more options for handles, wraps and guides too, but no picture of a full length rod. The tuned up website looks to be under development yet. More info needed, tiny flames and hole starting to form…

I have a 36″ sitting here here in front of me. There’s 6 guides on a 36″ TUC Precision. As for options… Tuned Up Customs is a full custom shop so they can and will do anything you want.

The number of guides will depend on the style of guide you would like (ceramic or Recoil) and the overall length of the rod. Looks like http://www.tunedupcustomrods.com will be up and live by the first week in November.

I fished most of last winter with the 34″ Precision rod and used this rod for perch and walleyes. It handled the 1/8th oz slender spoon bait very well, as well as the 1/4 oz blade bait for walleyes. Its a diverse rod that can handle typical winter baits as well as the sensitivity and strength to handle big fish.

Usually it takes 2-3 weeks to get a rod in your hands. Right now it is on the 2 week side.

I’ve had all custom rods I’ve ordered in under two weeks. The turn around is very quick… even on their noodles.

Yes, quite a bit. They’re fantastic rods. Cal turned me on to them last season and I’ve been very impressed with their blanks and build quality. They’ll be at the St. Paul Ice show if you plan to attend.

Why does Minnesota always get the great custom rod shops? Thorne Bros and then this one looks awesome as well! Wish central/northern WI would get their behind in gear and get a good custom shop somewhere. I guess if you have to be a vikings fan there is a consolation prize…you have good custom rod shops

Watch for new ice rods being developed as well.
They will be posted on the site once it is up. Feel free to ask us any questions before then.

    Thanks

MN is the epi-center of the ice fishing world on a whole host of fronts…participants/interest, dedicated businesses, suppliers, appropriate manufacturing talent, etc.

I’ll mirror what Cal said almost to a T. Except I had the 36″ & 34″ precision rods. They have become my go to rods for perch and walleyes. Like Cal said from a 1/8 oz slender spoon to a #7 jigging rap these rods will own any walleye or perch swimming! I’m sure the new rods will exceid my expatitaons like the first set did

How are they compared to a Thorne rod.

Thorne makes a very good rod. So does Tuned Up Customs. I’d say they’re comparable with regards to actions and build quality. I’ll give TUC the edge up on price (few bucks cheaper on the rods I’ve priced), a significant advantage going to TUC for their warranty (5 years from TUC versus 1 year from TB) and an advantage to TUC on delivery times.

That said, a rod from either shop is a VERY good product.
