    It is. But not real practical for most ice fishing scenarios. They work good for fishing in water less than 6′ and sight fishing. They are meant to detect the slightest little bite, then you hand line the fish in. They were built from a Swedish design that was used for European perch and little whitefish, they wont handle big fish very well.

    I use Jonntu’s in water up to 15 feet . Bass up to 24 inch. Crappie and whites as well as gills. Enclosed reels for ice are even more impractical than spincast gear in open water. your results may very.
    I am just hoping to see ice this year.

    I’ve thought about using them for smelt fishing at times but haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet.
