hey James, what rod are you planning on incorporating this reel on? I am thinking it might be a great addition to a TB Perch Sweetheart 32″.

I thought I would post some pictures of the latest prototype. The final product will be pretty close to this. Same extended reel foot and very similar in color.

    Howdy all,
I was able to track down one of the black betty 6061 combos. I tried it in the boat and it is a fantastic combo. The drag is smooth as silk and the rod is super sensitive without being weak. Now all we need is some ice !

I think you may have tracked down the normal black betty, as the 6061 geared black betty hasn’t been released nor is it going to be available in a combo.

Looks good. Can’t wait to tape it on a rod and put it through the paces. Keep us posted on when they’ll ship to Anglers Guide HQ, please.

Correct. The 6061 has not been released to any retailers and will not be available in a combo. The “Black Betty” name for both reels is causing a little confusion.

I just picked up a 36″ TUC Precision that I’ll match with the 6061 Black Betty multiplier when it arrives. IT should be an amazing combo.

I’ve noticed a shift in power in the otter rod box since I discovered Tuned Up Custom rods. Can’t wait to tryout the new rods! They sound even better

Big Daddy….Tuned Up Custom Rod Shop will drop ship any rod to any location. Speaking with them recently they were building a few rods for guys on the East Coast, so shipping is not a problem.

check out this link below and feel free to shoot Adam and email about what your looking for.

X2 – Looking forward to getting some time under my belt with them, but I share the same view as others here. At first glance, I’m impressed with the lightness and overall sleek and slim design, even for rods of heavier powers. The slightly larger REC Recoil guides like TUC is offering should be a standard offering for any high-end rod IMO too.

These reels have been around for a while now. A couple years ago I was looking for a geared fly reel and found a Japanese company selling almost this exact reel. They called it a “raft reel” not new just new to ice fishing.

I see that the weight of the raft reel is 175 grams (6.173 oz). Anyone know what the weight of the 13 fishing gear reduction reel is going to be?

13 Fishing has stated their reel will come in between 6 and 7 ounces. So, very similar.

Those raft reels look sweet but I think the key component for transfering these types of reels to an ice fishing application is the longer reel foot to allow room for your hand.

Interesting that Reeds is taking pre-orders for Dec delivery on the new BB reels. Might want to check that out very quickly if you want one badly.

Dean has 75 of them coming. You can “pre-order” from anyone. If you actually want to get one early in the season you’ll want to find a retailer that locked up availability early knowing that 13 Fishing plans to build a very limited supply for the first production run.
