Anyone had any first hand experience with the Black Betty
reel from 13fishing.com? Looks like a nice reel and the price isn’t bad.

Got my black betty 27″ ultra lite combo 2 days ago, going to write a review of it this week…… sturdy, nice grippy handle, braking/drag system is very adjustable and works great. it feels really good in the hand, pretty well balanced. Did a mitten test and there is plenty of clearance between the rod and the reel for your mitten/glove to be there. my ultra lite has backbone till the 2nd eyelet, then its pure wet noodle for the remaining 8 inches, just how I like my ultra lites. I am really impressed with the attention to detail on this combo. I cannot wait for chunky water to give it a try

Yes you can change to left hand retieve. I just got an email from Matt at 13Fishing, he said he would let me know where to buy them in our area. Waiting to hear from him, will post as soon as I find out.

It looks about the same as the Ice Tech Razor ($85.00).I have 3 of them and realy like them.Looks like the spool is a little smaller and the price ($40.00)other than that they seem the same. They will be at the ice fishing show, so will Ice Tech. Spool reel wars about to begin, about time.

GanderMountain might be one of the online places, as they carried 13fishing gear last year. Otherwise, ask your local retailer. If your local retailer don’t carry them, ask them to. And just because you don’t see them yet at your local retailer, don’t assume that they don’t carry them, they might not have received them yet. But easiest way is to ask your local retailer.

Honestly, not sure. I haven’t used or put one in the hand yet. I have concerns about the open spool design and the small eyelet the line runs through as I can see how icing might be a big issue but until I fish with one, and I will this winter, they’re only snap judgement things I see from the photos.

It is a direct retrieve. Retrieve rate is 1:1. There is no gearing.
