Looking at the extended weather forecast for the rest of this week into next, temps are not looking great.Plenty of days within the next week are in the 50’s near 60’s a few of the days… I guess I am in denial right now. Ice will be gone shortly…

Just drove out on lake Menomin today, lets of ice and snow. I’m sure we will still be ice fishing it in a month.

At least in the Metro area of the Cities. Although we should have a good spawn this year with a super early ice out compared to last year, with about half as much ice.

The edges will go fast. We put a wheeler through on Saturday getting on Petenwell. There was still about 15 inches of ice in the middle of the lake.

Just need a little more life-learnin’ I guess.
I though all Upper-Midwestern anglers knew that the best fishing there is happens to be when it’s warm enough that you can fish comfortably in a hoodie swearshirt and don’t need gloves, BUT the first mosquito hatch hasn’t yet occurred.

I guess if they haven’t figured it out on their own yet, there is not much we can do to help them.

Bad news is the thermometer read 43 degree at 7am today

Good news is … the thermometer should be FALLING throughout the day today; as much as 10 to 15 degrees due to a cold front moving in.

Bad news is … we might get RAINstorms on the leading edge of said coldfront.

Over her in Wisconsin we need some kid of warmer weather or rain to knock down our ugly ice/snow/slush conditions on the lakes. Hopefully it can all melt off and leave use with walkable ice to go after them late ice trophies.

Good riddins. I have new toys to play with on the soft water this year and can’t wait.

WOW! That might put a dent in the ice.

I’m planning on 5 days on Devils Lake next week and a trip to Lake Winnipeg towards the end of the month to finish out the season. If the ice holds…

Fishing locally(wright county) for the first time this ice season, then off to Lake Winnipeg next week, then Grand Rapids area the following weekend, then hopefully Rainy River for walleyes. March is so fun.

I drove past the Methodist Camp at Frontenac to see what it was like yesterday…….lots of open water…… Water on the ice…….nobody but the eagles out there fishing. I even split some wood when I got back….that is scary! Usually I fish to avoid work!!!

I fished this morning. Got home and got the rideing mower out and mulched the winter mess from my willow trees. 66 now and just like summer here on the coast of Maine.
