Seems to me the ICe Season, especially in southern MN (Twin Cities and South is really over after this Rain and Snow.

The extra weight of the Rain water and Wet Snow on top of the already precarious Ice kinda spells doom to the Ice Season in my book.

    What’s everyone else think?

Normandale lake has quite a bit of open water around the islands today.

It is for me. What a waste of a non-winter.

June 2nd can’t come quick enough. I’m going to make a point to be as annoying as possible over the next 93 days so my wife virtually kicks my butt out the door on muskie opener.

NO WAY, the best part of the icefishing season in the Twin Cities is just starting now.

A month from now; it’ll be a tour of Vermillion, Winnie and/or Cutfoot Sioux, then LOTW.

I think we have a few days left here on some Pool 9 Mississippi backwaters. I was on about 9 inches of good hard ice yesterday. WSe did get some rain overnight but it was a cold rain so i doubt it did much damage. Lows in the 20 for the weekend, but a predicted high of 54 for Tuesday. That may end it. Just have to chase perch and crappies in the boat then.

I hope to get out at least a couple more times. Might wear a dang ice vest as this ice is going to be very unpredictable. I’ve fished on slush ice and when you had to walk out on 2 by 4s to get to to the ice. This year there will be none of that. That sort of stuff is fine during a normal year where the ice peaks at 2′ or more of solid ice.

I fish so. MN…I’m done. No fish worth the risk for me.

Southen MN, maybe Central and north, not even close. Just talked with a buddy north of Mille Lacs and the lakes have 25″ – 30″ of ice and some snow for snowmobiles.

With the 6 to 8″s of heavy wet snow just north of the twin cities I would think conditions on top of the ice will be a huge issue. Drilling holes and then standing in deep water to fish them sucks. Moving around in those conditions is not good either. Still to early to write off the rest of the winter. Give it a week and we may be standing out on glare ice.

Forty trips in SW WI since Dec 8th. I plan on a few more yet. Shallow backwaters are the ticket.
