Gas Oil Ratio Question

I had borrowed someones magnum III gas auger and the recoil broke. As I was searching the net for parts I came across a thread where someone said they run 50:1 in thiers despite the label’s call for 24:1. The logic was something about the newer chemicals being better.

Is this true at all, or just risky? I did look at the $30 snowblower I got off craigslist and repaired and noticed it called for 35:1 and I have been running 50:1 in it for 2 years with no issues (i run 91 octane non-oxy with stihl oils).

I run 80:1 in all my small 2 strokes, with a good synthertic like Opti-2 or AmsOil Saber Pro….

I switched all my small motors to Amsoil Saber at 80:1. I can only speak for my auger…it runs well and clean!

I’ve been running my solo at 100:1 all season with saber. 3 gallons of gas and 1000’s of holes and she’s still screams through the ice
