I thought I would give a little fishing report for those of you out there. Here it goes.

With the unseasonal weather we have had all year has made it difficult to say the least in Door County. We are still managing to get out on to safe ice. The whitefish bite has been pretty consistent. I use a two hook system for these whitefish. I call it the JJ Dropper. Its a top treble (#12) a small swivel and a 3 Swedish pimple either gold or silver. Team it up with Gulp waxies or real wavies working the bottom 2 ft of the water column. The bite is pretty good. We are fishing a spot that we typically fish the first two weeks of the season. But due to the weather we can not get out to the deeper structure.

The walleye bite has slowed a little due to the moon phase. Toward the end of January the bite had been pretty good with nice fish being caught.I feel we are in a “pre” pre spawn blues. I think with the warmer weather the fish will turn on again soon.

Still trying to figure out how to post pics on here???

I’m heading up there this weekend for my 1st time fishing the ice in Sturgeon Bay. Glad to hear the whitefish are cooperating…a walleye or 2 would be nice, but I won’t complain if we can limit on whites. What size pimple are you using??

I some times call whitefish the “winter smallmouth” People would be amazed at how much fun and how good they fight. Its a blast! I use a #3 or give a Custom Jigs and Spins slender spoon a shot.

We are fishing out of Sand Bay on Fri. and Sat. for whitefish and walleyes. Can’t wait to get out there. Thanks for the fishing report.
