Winnie Lake report

Had another fun weekend on Winnie. Wind was a bit brutal but the Ice Castle was warm. Caught a couple nice eyes (18″ and 16″). Caught enough perch for a fish fry Saturday night and brought a limit home.
Perch were active but you had to get their attention. Used Buck-Shot Rattle Jigs (glow red) and bounced it off the bottom and kept it active. The larger perch would come flying in and nail it. At one point I had a northern AND a walleye on the camera. Was trying to get the attention of the walleye and all of a sudden a large perch came flying in and nailed the jig. Was fun to watch. We were fishing in 27′ and my brother-in-law was in 24′. Both of us did well with the perch. There is about 24″ of good solid ice and travel is pretty easy just watch for the snow drifts. If you are driving real slow, you may get hung up in some spots.

What landing will you be using. Maybe I can give you some additional info.

yeah Arnie! Don’t keep secrets, what if you find a 12 pack on your doorstep. (or is that shack step?)

If you are landing on the east side you may be going out of high banks?? You will want to set up in about 24′. Glow red/pink or glow green rattle jigs are working great. Bounce it off the bottom and be aggressive. If you are seeing/find small perch move up in the water column above the small ones to find larger perch. Hope this helps. I am leaving for Winnie in a couple of minutes. I have a grey Ice Castle 16′ Milacs Addition. We will be out from high banks. Will also be a white 21′ Ice Castle and a blue Ice Castle. I have a maroon Toyota with a boss plow on the front.

now now, don’t be mean! Highbanks makes a good bloody mary. If open your door and find a 12 pack of Miller you know Woody was there. Arnie you go straight out or South or North? Lots of structure around there to cover, heck Zoomers might be good next week too.

I have heard of people doing well off of Zoomers, just not our group. We have ventured there a few times and , should have stayed in the cabin all day. Would have been more productive.
