So I am going up Saturday with some friends for a day trip to Mille Lacs. I am planning for us to get out from the Hunter’s Point Resort. Does it cost to access the lake from their resort, do you actually get out from there? I just need last minute details ironed out, thanks for all the help in advance!

yes, $10. Fair price for use of their roads and bridges IMHO. I saw a lot of cracks out there Sunday so be careful if offroading.

Where do you pay this at, and is there a specific time they open the roads up? And, “yes”, hunters point resort is where you access the roads?

Yes…Right at there main office on the lake is where you would pay. Go to their website and you will be able to print off a map of the roads they use. Call them to see how early they open. Good luck…

You pay in the bar and they are usually open at 5:30 AM, but for sure by 6 AM. According to their facebook page, the roads have been in rough shape this week. They are closing them to any night time traffic at this point. Colder weather is in the forecast, so that will help. If you see a Marroon Yukon with “Fife” in the back window, stop and say hi.

I’m pretty sure the reason they aren’t opening until 7:00 is so they can go check for cracks before they allow any vehicle traffic… In a typical year you can get out earlier. You can call Appeldorns or Liberty and check about their road conditions as well, but it might be worth waiting until daylight if you don’t have an ATV for off-road travel.

Looks like I may be going to Hunter Winfields, their roads open up at 6am and 10$ charge. I dont want to miss the bite, and I also want my holes drilled and marking fish before the bite really gets going.

You might want to give them a call before you go I read that they closed their road yesterday or today.

You could just drive out from the Cedar Creek public access this year too…

There is NO one checking roads out of a public access, I am sure.
You are better off going out of a resort, who will check their roads before they allow traffic on them. This cold snap will help,
    BUT
you sure don’t want to be on the 6:00 news, because you didn’t want to miss the bite and not pay $10.

I’d enjoy a big breakfast at Hunter’s and go out afterwards.
It just isn’t worth the risk.
    Good Luck

the colder weather is decieving. with the colder weather, the ice sheet will shrink and the cracks will open. when it warms up the ice sheet will expand and the the cracks will push together. don’t let the cold weather fool you. i was out of hunters point today and the roads were in great shape. there is a big crack that followes the center of the main road to the boot flat. it goes beyound the boot past big flat. do not cross the crack going north or south by the boot. georges boys check the road a few times a day and will close or plow a new road as needed. check in at the bar and they will point you in the right direction. i didn’t leave the bar until after 8:00pm and there were still people coming off of the lake. get there early and have breakfast and george will let you out when he knows the roads have not suffered any damage over night.
