I own the Marcum LX-5 and it is definitely a great ice unit, wouldn’t want to go on the ice without it! I was thinking about getting the hardware and different transdeucer and mounting it on my boat for the upcoming open water season. I’d anyone has any suggestions or comments they would be greatly appreciated!

I had the precursor to the LX-5 bow mounted on my boat during summer and ice fish in winter back in the day. Unit still works but is now a backup for ice. The only downside I can think of is you must be staring at the flasher to get a reading since its real-time. Main reason I replaced it with an innexpensive graph was the display memory as it scrolled. Too many things going on in the boat usually to stare at flasher.

I have an LX-1 and purchased the high speed transducer for it around 4 or 5 years ago. I use it just as much in the open water as the hard water season. Just love the instantaneous response.

I was watching a Jimmy Houston fishing show the other day and he has one mounted in his dash to spot bait fish while cruising the lake. Said it let’s him know what depth to start fishing at.

Same here with my LX-5, you can even fish verticle and still see your jig when fished under the high speed transducer.

I did not mount mine but instead leave it in the pack and use the same battry I use ice fishing. I plug in the transducer and I’m able to set the unit anywhere I want in my 12′ floater

X2 Mine gets a year round workout. I purchased the high speed transducer and it is mounted on my trolling motor on the front and the LX5 is mounted up there on my casting deck and runs off the boat battery. One of the best purchases I’ve made. I think the bracket came with the transducer.

My LX-5 is the only Locator I use for open water. I leave it in the Condura case and keep the battery charged year round. Workd GREAT!!

Thanks everyone for your input! I will definitely get it mounted on fire open water and try it out! Can’t go wrong! Figure I can at least use it for vertical jigging for those christmas trees of crappies! Anymore tips or suggestions would be great! Thanks again guys!
