Why does every marcum, vexilar, jiffy, strikemaster post turn into a P-ing match. Just enjoy what you use, don’t bash the other and everybody can just get along.

Because all of these companies have done an excellent job “branding”. They’ve created a culture that promotes product loyalty.

On top of that, they all seem to be very good prodcts.

I have my preferences as well

One thing that is forgotten among the guys that have been on this and other sites for a long time is the new person coming to the sport.

Many see these posts every year and wonder “will it ever end?”

Just two weeks ago I was talking with a fellow panfisherman. When he said he never used a flasher, I said really? You don’t know what you’re missing!

Long story short I borrowed my LX-5 to him for a weekend and now he’s the proud owner of a VX-1.

I was taken back by how long he was fishing “in the dark”…and now, so is he.

My point is there are alway new people coming to IDO that are just getting into ice fishing or haven’t used a flasher in the past and want good solid info.

What better way for a person to get an idea of what’s important to them? After listening to both sides argue for a day or so, they can either buy on line or swing in to the nearest retailer to check them out in person.

Just like the Micro Review thread, best advertising MarCum cameras ever had.

Kind of along what Brian said, I think many people are passionate about the equipment that they have had great success with. I hate to see people buy junk bait casting reels as their “first” because they’ll perform poorly and people get discouraged. Same with many other products. If you see someone spending the $$$$ for quality, you want to see them get the best they can.

Gave my Ford away when I bought my GMC. I still feel bad for the poor guy I donated it too…That was like a cruel prank

Agreed! That is why I posted in the Marcum Forever post that I was going to try a LX7. I have had good luck with vexilars but I want to see if I am missing something more. Keep an open mind and I might learn something

    Best answer yet

I enjoy reading about products i do not own, but then all the mine is better than yours starts and the information goes down the hole. If/when my flasher ever dies, then this will be really frustrating trying to figure out what to buy..

Joe Sixpack buys x flasher for $499.

If he would concede that his brand x isn’t the best, wouldn’t that mean he is admitting to making a bad decision?

Like anyone you’d ever take advice from, it comes down to credibility. If they can back up their “mine is better” with a fairly educated “why”….then at least you can tell they’ve put some thought and effort to it. Typically, that “why” comes from why their product matches the way they fish. If you fish similarly, chances are it’ll work for you provided you trust them. Better yet, it tends to spur more “whys” and additional information perhaps you’d never considered.

I’ll say one thing, I can’t think of the last time a trusted source on IDO ever steered me in the wrong direction. With that knowledge, anything I share comes with the same responsibility and so on and so forth, with an overall goal being that everyone shares the very best information they can at all times. It’s not a perfect system, but I’ve enjoyed it thus far. Good debate and the process of sorting through the information has always been something I appreciate from IDO. You won’t always get the answer you thought you would, but you can bet it will be the collective experiences of some pretty darned talented anglers overall!

As A guy who sells Fords I have learned there are 4 kinds of truck buyers
#1 the guys who will only own a Ford PERIOD
#2 the guys who will only own a Chevy PERIOD
#3 the guys who HATE their Chevy and are now buying a Ford
#4 the guys who HATE their Ford and are now buying a Chevy

the most important thing about all four of those people is that you cant change any of their minds. So for the most part I stay out of ALL Ford Chevy debates. But since Im feeling a little bit spunky today…. there is a reason the F150 is the best selling truck for 35 years in a row and thats because Chevys aint

Which makes me just scratch my head when my father-n-law swears by Dodge and Yamaha. Although, he did, after about his 10th trip for nontypical service ask me how often I’ve had my GMC into the shop. When I told him just for maintenance he did seem to wonder…poor guy.
