Despite the constant ups and down of this NY ice season we’ve been able to make our time on the ice count. The bite is the only thing that has remained consistent over the past couple weeks, the ice has been everything but, going from 3″ – 7″ – 8″ back to 4″-5″.
Most fishing has been confined to the ends of the lake with the middle either being still open or just skim ice. Its been good and bad. Bad, because we haven’t been able to reach that off shore structure we normally like to fish this time of year due to ice conditions, but good because we have further examined the areas we normally overlook and stayed on fish which has been a good confidence builder.

All fish came on raps and slender spoons

    Yesterdays limit for dinner.

    Biggest for the day

Nice job icing some decent walleyes!

How deep of water are you typically jigging out that way?

    Thanks

Usually at this point in the season we have moved out into 27-34FOW but with the weird year this year we are still finding good amounts of fish in 17-23FOW

Saturday ..I had my mojo .. had a great morning bite …all day with the Whites …And then the Blitz started around 3:30 and I hammered the eyes.

Sunday I thought was going to be a repeat ..stated out with 10 Whites and 1 keeper Eye … I did not touch another fish after 1pm waited till 4:50pm to see it they would turn on and nada.

How about the Ice cracking huh …. Saturday night there were 3 Pucker moments…. UNREAL ! Sunday I had one crack right between my holes …. Wow

I hear ya! there were a few times out there it sounded like there was a train coming! Think Im going to hit it hard thursday or friday right straight through monday. I hope the forecast holds true and maybe we’ll be able to get out of jewell, godfrey or maybe even cleveland.

    Do you keep the whites?
Ive never really cared for eating them and usually throw them back or give them to a buddy. They are a little on the strong side compared to the yellows and eyes and my girlfriend wont eat them. I slipped a few by her last year by trimming out the lateral line but not really worth the extra work.

I bet I caught 20 30 little Eyes this weekend …Fishing that North Shore is tough sometimes. I hope we can get out of Cleveland this weekend . JUMBOOOOOOooooos

Great pic!! Those are some awesome numbers.

We put a hurtin on the eyes again this weekend. Switched things up a little today and got our eyes then got into some SUMO perch for a brief period.

PS. there is a REALLY nice eye swimmin around the Islands with a new blue/silver slender spoon lip ring courtesy of Kim today when it broke her off at the hole.

    will have some pics tomm

What a weekend!!!, the madness continues…

    Kims lunker

Fun story about these next couple pics. We headed west yesterday in search of some perch. The scene when we got out there was a total circus. we walked out roughly a mile and started our day off quick with a couple nice eyes and a handful of jumbos then the bite came to a screeching halt. We threw everything we had at them and we stayed on fish with every move we made but they just didnt want any of our offerings. THEN…. I snapped on a 1/4 oz gold plated BFNT blade, sprayed a little of my favorite fish juice on the trebs and the frenzy was triggered. I caught this giant perch these two eyes and a couple other jumbos is less than 10 mins!! Kim even benefited from the frenzy by picking up another eye during the flurry. SO COOL!

    Awesome! Good Luck!!!!

Yes that was one of them. I ordered a few of them in November, and I have given them a shot every time out 20 mins here 20 mins there. Always get a lot of lookers but Sunday was the first time it triggered that kind of reaction.

We do well with them in may/june.

The other magic lure, i dont think the worlds ready for yet.
