What does a Rainy Lake guide do on a day off between walleye trips? Scout out a crappie bite for incoming clients, of course!!

Filmed Feb 1, 2012: Chris Granrud, owner of http://www.rainydazeoutdoors.com, takes a day off from walleye guiding to scout for mid-winter crappie on Rainy Lake and drops on a school of active biters making for some VERY fast and exciting action!

Got to love them crappies. Hey Chris, I picked up a sled for ice use and always looking for ideas. Mabey you can do a “on ice” on how your sled is set up…? Looking fwd to watching more videos, keep them comming!

I’ve had others request a small clip running through the ins and outs of my main guide sled as well. I will definately take the time to do this for guys looking to pimp out an ice fishing sled!!! I’ve been extremely happy with this set up thus far. It carries (2) 5 gallon pails of which one carries my Frabill round tip ups and the other carries fish/bait. It carries 2 Otter hard sided rod cases and this year my camera gear/tripod and Frabill Big Scooper all on the back of the sled. I have a built in compartment on the Polaris edge that I use for tackle, and misc hook removal, gloves, hats, lunch….. On the front of the sled it carries my Strikemaster Solo 154 and my Marcum LX7. I have my H20C mounted at dash on a simple Ram mount. The whole front hinges forward for easy access to underside of hood. There are a couple things I’m going to add next year, but all in all I LOVE IT!! Keep your eyes open for this clip I’ll try do it sooner rather than later per your request.

You’re on those crappie early this year. Normally you don’t even start to look for them until late Feb. I feel a banner year coming your way, buddy! Will this be the year you break the 17″ mark?

I’ve learned long ago talk is talk without pics. The one in my right hand on pic #1 is 16.5 inches and 2lbs 9oz. the one in my left hand was a mere 15.5 inches caught on the next Diamond jig drop!! Over the last 3 years customers have caught 5 Crappies 16 inches of slightly over and around 40 over 15 inches.

Special fish no doubt. Believe it or not those big “Donks” get even bigger. The precise reason I lace up the boots from Mid-February until April!! I want the 18!! BAD!!
