I fish on a small lake by my house out here in ND. There is no lake depth map of this lake. The state has done a great job stocking this lake with almost 200k walleye in the past 10 years. They also put in about 150k perch. there are no other species of fish in this lake. Last summer I did catch some nice walleyes (17 to 21 inches) So I went back to that spot this winter. In the summer I was catching them in 2 to 7 feet of water. So, I set up my house in 10 feet of water. The action was going like this, small perch as soon as I get my line down. Then some small Walleyes mixed in, then nothing for about 10 minutes and BAM, Nice walleye, nice walleye, nice walleye maybe one more nice walleye, then nothing and it is dark out. Lately the action is the same but no nice walleyes at the end. Should I move shallower, deeper? or to a new spot all together? If the eyes are hitting right at dark in 7 feet of water, does that mean I could catch them earlier in deeper water? Any help would be apprciated. I want to become a good fisherman, willing to do what I am told!

    How deep is the lake?

IMHO.. stocked walleyes seem to hang out along the weed lines.

The small perch you may be catching are a good forage base.

Pop a couple holes in the shallows and try it, theres omly one way to find out.

As the winter goes on the wallaye move deeper into the lake. In the morning bite they are shallow before the sun comes up. And when suns is starting to go down they move shallow again. It all depends is on how much food they have. They might be feeding on the small perch. When I fish a lake that has no map, I always drill and drill and drill. Just to find what depths are out there. Use lures that generate some action. To attract fish to you.

If its a very shallow basin lake, the walleyes can constantly be on the move. Areas will be hot for short periods of time, then dwindle out. A lot of hit/miss type action. Here is an example of a shallow basin lake I fish Beaver Dam A huge part od success on this lake comes from finding multiple spots that get frequented by eye – then a lot of run/gun to find active schools
