I was ice fishing Bussey Lake on lower Pool 10 this weekend and there was probably 8 inches of good ice when out comes a truck on the ice. I couldn’t believe it. I was expecting to see my first dunk, but he got off the ice ok. Still, I wouldn’t be driving a truck on 8″, just my opinion.
On Petenwell last weekend I saw multiple vehicles. First place I popped holes was 10.5 inches. A while later I moved 50 yards and had 7 inches. Both spots measured with a tape measure. With the screwy winter temps we’ve had, I don’t know if I will drive out at all this year, may just stick to the ATV.
I was out on Lake Onalaska Sunday with approx 9″ plus of ice and saw what I believe is the first truck out to the landing lights. A full size newer Nissan and he had his child with him. If you want to chance it by yourself fine but don’t make your kid go with you.
Call me crazy, but I will be on the lake with my truck tomorrow With that many vehicles and people on the ice today, I beleive it is a pretty good bet that I will stay topside. Of course I won’t be hitting the known pressure cracks or areas that I know to be thin year after year. Sure beats walking to where I want to go.
