Ok I’m outta here now. Where’s that thread that had pictures of strippers?
Here it is: Want a stripper

……Is there free packaging peanuts growing from the packaging peanut tree, next to the free money tree, that grows from the fairy tale land where Unicorns eat rainbows and poop butterflys?
Yep, they can all be found in that big building in the sky that holds the stock of replacement parts in the land o’ no taxes an’ overhead.
I tend to notice these types of threads happen more often mid winter
They do indeed. February is usually the hot month for these threads. Might not get too bad this year considering the mild winter. Then again, it could get even worse.
Git yer popcorn ready!

Had to say something to lighten the mood around here!

My only thought is why can I go to the USPS and ship a box of lures in a flat rate box for 10.25, and a recoil spring (which would likely fit in the SMALL flat rate shipping box ($5.25 if it fits it ships!)) costs 15 dollars? If strikemaster was hand delivering it to you using their staff, I’d understand. But certainly I would think they’re going through UPS, Fed-ex, or USPS. I agree, the price wouldn’t stop me either from getting the part i needed. And you’re all right, it’s better than going through China. But when they’re the only one that has the part you need and they choose to gouge you with a pretty high price, it leaves a bad taste. If those parts were universal, shipping would cost 4 bucks.
Cade, if you had to go to the USPS 50 times a day for free, wouldn’t that get old ??? Sure would, you’d get somebody else to do it… and they sure as heck wouldn’t do it for free Hence “handling charge”
I am glad a lot of companies recognize that even if it costs that much, you might want to eat a little of the cost.
What is worth more, selling someone a second auger when they want a new one because they are happy with it and your service, or making sure you don’t give the customer a break?
Just a thought. Some companies are so consumed by the bottom line that they don’t recognize the bottom line.

Pug, that’s typically the difference between business owners and shareholders.
I don’t mind a reasonable cost for handling. I just don’t want to pay for the next profit sharing check solely for my one time dealing with a company.
Also, what a company charges for S&H does influence my purchasing habits.

I absolutely does influence your purchasing habits. It’s called the free market and it is the basis of our economy. Doubling the cost of the part to get it shipped to you is not uncommon, in fact on small items i expect that. Like someone said before, if it isn’t imporantant enough to you to pay for the shipping then don’t buy it, if it is then buy it…thats the free market, i for one am a huge fan of the free market. Now can we kill this thread?
It kind of becomes a closed market once you purchase something if a part breaks that can only be ordered from the original manufacturer.
If the shipping costs are not worth it to you, then drive there and save the cost. It is simple. Nobody is forcing anybody else to incur those costs.
I can not afford to drive there for what they charge for shipping – even if they double, or triple it…
It amazes me there is so much negative discussion about something that somebody willingly agreed to!
I too am amazed. At the length of this post. This may rival the famous breast pump post. Anyone else remember that one?

I didn’t know that Strikemaster makes recoils? I thought that was the engine manufacture (Tecumseh)?

Ah the good ol’ days when a guy would post a pic he took in the garage of something for sale and guys would start to bid on anything and everything that was captured in the frame (replies were allowed in the classifieds).
So I guessing that you were looking at Recoil repair kit on the strikemaster website??
Kinda funny, it took me so much longer to read four pages of people fighting than it did to find the same kit on Ebay for $13.39 and $5.95 for expedited shipping.. For a grand total of $19.34… Always check around when looking to buy something.. Saved you on original price on the parts and on SH charges…

But it was pretty comical to read all of it

I’d also like to focus on what makes money. ICE AUGERS!!!!!!!!
…that don’t break, I’d like to add to the pot.
2 of these items in the garage rafters, never to be used again. One old “white” one in the truck-used weekly and with never a doubt about it!
