Looking for some basic lures and colors that I can buy to get started ice fishing. Have been watching ido tv and reading about the quality products custom jigs and spoons puts out (slender spoons, lightning spoons) but what colors and sizes would you suggest for targeting walleyes with those lures or what other lures would you suggest for a newbie? Thanks for your help ahead of time.

You could be like the majority of us, buy 500 lures and use the same 5 over and over! Here are my “go to” lures for walleye but it always depends on why type of water you are fishing:

    Lightning Spoon Perch or Clown
    Slender Spoon Silver or Gold
    Swedish Pimple Silver
    Jigging Rapala Firetiger, Orange

my favorite walleye lure is a jiggin rap, and have herd that chubby darters which are similar are very good as well. when targeting walleyes i will move often until i find fish, or if im fishing a long break line or flat i will start off drilling holes until im sick of drilling holes maybe 12 to 20 to start out with, then hole hop until i find fish. also tipping the bottom hook of your jiggin rap with a minnow head can be very effective. one other tip when using a jigging rap if you find that your front or rear hooks are catching on the edge of the ice when trying to turn a eye into your hole you can snip one of them off but i wouldnt recomend snipping both of them. good luck.

colors blue/silver red/silver in slender spoon 1/8 and 1/4 ounce.

black silver foil/ blue silver foil in 1/8 are my go to’s.

However, that is because they best match my forage base.
Match up colors with the fish that your walleyes are feeding with, and then go from there!

The best lures lately are Lil Cecil, moon glows with silver glitter, fat boys and on and on. From the 60s a tear shaped jig in orange and green . It has a black dot on the color side used with mousies. That makes 3 Drews on this post.
