Here’s the latest On Ice fresh from Mille Lacs. Joel Nelson and crew hit the big lake at the front end of this most recent cold snap and got into a great perch and walleye bite on the east side of Mille Lacs.

Mille Lacs Lake, MN ice fishing with Joel Nelson, Jon Marshall and a guest appearance by Tony Roach, owner of http://www.roachsguideservice.com/. The perch and walleye action is HOT on Mille Lacs Lake in 2012!

“Fish-awn” Love it! That’s a perch bite I’ll remember for a long while. Like Tony said, the competition down there amongst those schools of fish is unreal, and when you can make it a contest to see which fish gets a face-full of hooks first…..the bite gets wild!

Curious. Why are the Marcum reps using LX-5’s instead of LX-7’s?

You know what they say about the shoemakers kids? Guilty. Neither of us had plans to fish that day, and I had two units out on-loan…..one of which was the X-7. Marshall brought 3 underwater cameras but had no flasher. That’s what we get for planning this at 9:30PM the night before.

Good to see since I have an LX-5. They are solid units.

Ice On boys and girls !!!

I am really looking forward to getting out on some ice with some great friends !!! Looking forward to putting a good bend to my new 36″ Quiver Stick that showed up a couple weeks ago.. Matt at Thorn Brothers did a fantastic job of helping me thru the process of having a custom rod built for my specific needs.. Now I will get to put it to the test Matt

See you this weekend James looking forward to seeing all the Ido group there as well

Nice video, but was hoping there would be a mention of what color and type spoons were working if you think it made a difference.
    thanks,
    Jack

    Jack:

Colors may or may not have played a role, but size/weight of the bait definitely did. I fished the colors that have worked well for me up there in the past few weeks. One clip that didn’t make the cut was a mention that I was using a very heavy CJ&S Lightning Spoon to get down to the active perch and walleyes while they were still on-screen. 1/4oz and 3/8oz in rainbow foil and clown foil were the two colors I had tied on. Some of those fish didn’t put much bend in the rod as you can see from the video, that’s because I was using a med-hvy walleye sweetheart to fish that 3/8oz spoon effectively! Those perch were hitting the bigger spoon without any issue at all. Heavy baits were the key to keeping that bite going.
