I downsized to a one man portable and would appreciate any input on a good heater.

    Thanks,

A buddy heater would best fit the bill.

Another vote for the Buddy Heater, it works great for the ice shack and in the deer blind during late season!

Are you guys using a big buddy or a little buddy? I have a little buddy and it is easier to tip over. I was thinking of getting a big buddy so it would be more stable.

I run little buddy in my 2 man frabill. Due to the warm winter so far it has been plenty. I know if I was to bank it in with snow it would be enough for almost any temp or wind. I do keep a sunflower heater incase but I don’t run the risk of burning a hole in my house with the little buddy.

For a one man, a regular buddy should be fine. Anything bigger I would get the big buddy so you have it if you need it.

I just purchased a Coleman Blackcat heater from Walmart on line for $58. It has a high/low setting which translate to 3,000 btu or 1,000 btu. I have used it twice and so far has worked great. What i liked about it was you could turn it on high to start then back it off to the low setting. Just another idea. I think they have a model that has electronic start, mine does not and I use a lighter to fire it up.

I run a sunflower cooker with either a five ft hose to tank outside or small tank inside. Works awesome.

Im with Mike on this one. Too many “safety” features on the Buddy heaters. Evert feature is a point of failure. If you are not planning on leaving a heater unattended or sleep there is no need for all these features. Keep it simple and it will treat you bette in the long run.

A few years ago I baught the Power Cat and was not too happy with it. To make a long story short I was trying to use it in a 2 man house. I bought it being uneducated on what I needed. Now that I use a one man I love the PC for its ease, dependability and fuel efficiency. 6-8 hrs on a 1# cyl. And longer on the ones I refill.

Thanks for the input guys. The buddy heater recommendations kind of surprised me. I would have thought more guys would like something smaller. Good food for thought.

Coleman Sportcat works for me.You can fit it into a 5 gallon bucket and use it in the boat also.

I got a black cat in my scout too. It is miserly on propane and I put mine inside the tube below my seat. You have to be careful with it when you flip your tent up but it was a lot less expensive and gets the job done.
