went out this afternoon after the recent snowstorm and cold snap we have experienced to check out some strip mine lakes mazonia fish and wildlife area the south unit monster lake to be specific. the western middle section of the lake was still open as it was exposed to the wind but the rest of the lake is locked up with 2.25 inches with lows reaching 2 degrees tonight i’m sure we will have safe ice in no time at all ill be going out in the morning to check it again and maybe fish. i wont fish on anything less than 3.25 so hopefully this 2 degree low over night will add an inch if not I guess Sunday afternoon will have to do here is a chart for ice formation just for kicks http://fishingvermont.net/images/Ice/Ice_th1.jpg good luck to everyone up north and to anyone trying to venture out farther south make sure you know the body of water you are trying to fish and be safe 2 or three days of cold gets the blood pumping a bit but it doesn’t always make the ice thicker the area i will be fishing is extremely protected from the wind so it forms ice very quickly good luck to everyone ill post some picture if i go

That place is evil and full of springs . Early ice the current changes and eats away good ice between you and shore. Warmer places to swim so be careful. I don’t think about fishing there till pondo has 8 inches.
