I already posted this in the Mille Lacs forum, but I thought I would share here as well.

A simple trick that will help you put more fish on the ice when the weather is nice and you’re out hole hopping with a jigging spoon is to keep a small container with extra bait in your pocket at all times… This way when you find an active school of fish you can get your spoon back down the hole immediately instead of having to run back to the shack for another minnow/head. I’d bet this one little trick put an extra dozen eyes on the ice for me this weekend as I was able to catch 2, 3 or even 4 eyes when I found an active pod of fish versus only catching one at a time

Agree 100%. Makes no sense to go hole hopping without extra bait at the ready should you drop on an active pod of fish.

    Thanks for sharing.

Great tip! It is amazing how long they will stay alive in the bait puck. I loaded mine with fatheads Saurday morning and they were flopping around in the afternoon. Just don’t forget them in there for a couple days.

I have given up trying to get the minnow smell out of all my snosuit pockets… Great tip…
I used to use the bait pucks … But I find it quicker to just grab out of the pocket.

Haha this reminds me of a day of crazy tip up action. They were goin up so fast I just wanted instant sucker back down the hole. Needless to say I had squirmy suckers pokin out of every pocket there was a trail from hole to hole of dropped suckers lol. My buddy’s were laughin there [censored] off at me but hey I was the one catchin fish while they just watch

Now that’s funny Reminds me of last year at a friendly little pond tournament that I fished. The format was catch and release with all fish having to be brought to a measuring station at the center of the pond… So when I really got into the panfish a couple hundred yards away I was catching 3 or 4 monster panfish per minute so instead of running back with each fish I set them on the ice while the school came thru and then stuffed my pockets with crappies/sunnies/perch as I would run over to measure every couple minutes… I had fish tails poking out everywhere Too bad I forgot which pocket had my crackberry
