Saturday destination?

Looks like my wife is willing to go out fishing Saturday afternoon/evening and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a place to go not too far from Minneapolis. While I am usually content just to catch Coors with my mouth if the fish won’t cooperate, I find that with her the potential repeat experiences tend to go better if she catches some fish. The only place I have been this year that resulted in catching enough fish to warrant keeping and cleaning them was Bellaire Beach on White Bear, which is where I plan to go unless I can find something better. Also, with her it cannot be anywhere that the ice seems remotely sketchy, or where you can see open water. Thanks!

It would be a bonus if it was clear and she could use the camera too.

I would like to get gills or crappie for a fish fry. I’d like to keep it under an hour away.

I was just logging in to ask nearly the same question. I’ve got the “OK” to head out, early in the morning, and back by dinner or leave mid afternoon and stay out late, so a parts of the question. 1, better to go early or late? 2, and any suggestions of decent places within an hour of downtown St. Paul. Thanks!
