Any opinions on which to buy for the GF? I already have a flasher and I think she might like the camera better, plus when she’s not along I can use either one.

Just not sure of how big the 380 is, or what the warranty is on it, the Flashers have 2 years. Nothing on Marcum’s site about warranty, weight, not even a manual. I’m guessing only a 1 year warranty since that is what is on the other camera units.

Is the 380 a legacy product now that the LCD screens are out? Maybe I should stay away from it?

Same price for both so no difference there.

I would go with the camera if I were you, you already have a flasher at your disposal and she will probably enjoy watching the camera more than little colored lines spinning around in a circle. Good luck.

That was my thinking but I’m a little worried about the durability of the camera and if it is going to be or is a legacy product.

With only a 1 year warranty and I have seen what happened to a lot of cameras, granted they were not Marcum cameras but a high percentage of them fail.

I do think she would love the camera and hey it would help me in those tough bite situations, just worried about lugging a 7″ Tube TV along.

Where are the IDO Staffers Joel, James?

Get the camera since you have the flasher. My son and I were fishing last weekend and we have both. We tended to look at the camera more. Nothing better than actaully seeing what is down there. There have been many times when I have seen a picky fish pull in a bait and without the camera it would have been undetectable. When we set-up we drill three holes across and put the camera in the far left hole that way we can see both of our baits. Works great.

    They are fishing of course.

The VS380 is a very good camera, it has been on the market for a while already and has out lasted most of the competition cameras in a similar model…ie cabelas. I would imagine a very good selling camera at this price point. The camera itself is a high resolution camera that gives a clear vison of whats below. The 7″ tube style monitor is a bonus at this price, most cameras with a bigger screen means more money, not with the VS380. It also comes with a camera panner (50 dollar value) inclueded in that price.
A lot of guys will buy this camera and hook it up to the big screen in the permanent house simply because of price point and the quality of the actual camera not because the monitor isn’t good for viewing. Since you have a flasher already the camera is something to use to keep the GF entertained while fishing, I am sure she will enjoy watching the fish just as much as you catching them.

The MarCum VS380 is a good durable camera to buy, I wouldn’t let the 1 year warranty scare you either.

Can I hook a portable DVD player to it? You never know what you might want to watch in the fish house if the bite is off!

MarCum camera’s have a video port in the back of the screen for recording underwater footage and/or video port to hook up to the big tv to watch the camera on a bigger screen.

Don’t know about hooking a portable dvd player to it….if fishing is that bad you need to move to a new spot.

I have the VS380 and love it. It used it yesterday to watch the walleye hit on Red Lake and watched the perch and walleye on Mille Lacs today. Both days I turned off the Vex and just watched the fish interact with my bait(s). It is fascinating.
