What the heck happened, Grant?! You’re supposed to get those fish on the ice! I can honestly say that’s the loudest “snap” I’ve ever heard from the line breaking on a fish. Great work on your first On Ice… hopefully you’re out there shooting another right now.

Filmed on the St. Louis River in Duluth, Mn – December 24, 2011. Grant Sorensen gets an early start and talks changing ice conditions, fish movements and how to catch a nice batch of walleye on a Custom Jigs & Spins Slender Spoon.

Note: This video is the sixth in a new series from In-Depth Outdoors. The concept is simple. Give all members of the In-Depth Outdoors Ice Pro Staff Team full-blown camera gear and editing equipment and cut them loose to film the day-to-day details that could never be captured by a production style camera crew.

There may or may not have been a little editing that had to take place after that happened hahaha.

So here it goes, I had a nice solid mark on the LX-7 come up and without hesitation she inhaled the slender spoon. After a 3 plus minute fight I finally got her head to the hole (solid 24 plus inch fish at a minimum). About 5 minutes before I hooked her, I had a photographer jump into my otter cabin with me, so to make room for him I moved my sunflower heater to the middle front of the house. So I had her head at the hole, went down to grab her and the line snapped as it touched the metal ring on the sunflower.
The fish then proceeded to just sit there, as I saw the gold slender spoon just dangling from her mouth. I made an attempt to grab her with no success as she swam away. Talk about a bummer!! Could have been worse if it were a 30 plus inch fish, but she was still a beauty.
That’s the first time I have ever done that, and probably won’t be the last! So take note, heater placement inside your house can be critical! Haha.

I suppose – “oops my line burned” would’ve sounded funny!

Nice clip and thanks for sharing Grant!

Ooops could have been a polite version of what I may have said.

    Nice video Grant.
