I’m looking to make a day trip on Sunday the 1st. Plan to leave Albertville area around 10-11 ish and head north. Would prefer to chase walleye and perch, but panfish is an option also.
Do we need to focus north of Mille Lacs?

Scott Steil posted on Facbook yesterday that he didn’t like the ice on Mille Lacs and so he headed to Leech. No report on how the ice was there but it appeared that they caught some fish. Recent resort reports from Winnie look like they might be driving there this weekend.
I saw that. I was afraid we may need to head a little further north. Might need to get to bed a little earlier than planned on Saturday night…
If you stay in close to shore on mille lacs you are fine, less than a 1/4 mile. Remember where you caught that eelpout trolling? that would be a place to start. Or north of that
Matty Poo and I hard headed north, where is yet to be determined.
I had friends fishing in the Park Rapids area all week and they reported 8-12″ of good ice on most lakes. Another friend was on a small lake near Aitkin and said they had 10 inches out there. Good luck! I’m fishing around the metro this weekend.
Kooty, head west to the fatherland, we are headed to Thompson Sunday to get our buckets filled. I would guess Leech or Winni would be my choices if going North.
Kotty, Mille Lacs… we have been slammin the jumbos in holes, say 29′ deep on the SE corner. Occasional eye too. Sunlight seems to shut them down so hope for cloudcover. wheelers and sleads are fine, make sure you looks back to the MODIS satallite images a week or so so that you are aware of where the BIG cracks are and dont cross that line. still lots of water to fish.
you guys are greedy I wish I had enough ice to where I could be picky and choosy about places based on whether or not they have enough to drive out on. Just remember, could be worse, you could be stuck fishing community holes on the Mississippi with 150 other people on 4-5″ of ice that you have to jump 5 feet on the shoreline to get on
I agree with Cade, what ice we have in the area see’s foot traffic
Still glad we have some ice though
Bret, I’m surprised you’ve yet to trailer that boat of yours over to p8 to find some untouched backwater ice. I’m very, very tempted to do that this weekend.
That’s good to know fife. I guess our odds of fishing together are less than 50/50 now . I might make a day out of finding some fish just to spite you . Wheelers are out at my cabin Kooty, just drilled a couple holes with at least 8″ but have never been able to figure this place out?

14″+ on Red. I’m sure that’s to far, but that’s what they’ve got.
I was on local lakes here in the Eau Claire area yesterday and had a good solid 8″of ice. People were driving on Lake Altoona with SUVs and small trucks. Crazy if you ask me but hey to each their own.
