Went out on Long Lake between Centuria/Balsam Lake today and had a good 8″ of ice in 15 fow, had a couple vehicles out there but they were staying close to shore.

Lots of people with tip ups trying for northerns, saw a few that were nice, but not many flags, majority that did go up were not legal.

Tried out my xmas present to myself, vexilar FL8-SE and my new eskimo 43cc ice auger (blew up my strikemaster Mag last winter), both worked great!!

Lots of action jigging between 2-3pm with sunnies, took twenty or so out of the water and only kept 5, lots and lots of small ones..

And of course, what ice fishing trip isn’t complete without the DNR warden coming out on the ice to check license’s and fish, good thing I know him by first name… Didn’t even have to pull out my license for him…

Overall good day, but still a little leary going any farther out than what I was, no permanents out there yet… They have been running wheelers and snowmobiles across the entire lake, so if anybody is debating bringing out their permanent, that’s how I’d get it out there… But with warm weather at our door again, I don’t know what the middle of the lake is doing.. Just a heads up.. Stay safe…

Yes, our local warden in the area is Jesse Ashton, he is a decent guy as long as you are decent with him.. He’s simply doing his job, and the only ones that seem to get angry are the ones that are doing something wrong I just tend to see him a lot whether I’m hunting, fishing, boating, etc.. Never in any trouble, just see a lot of Jesse..

as far as permanents go be safe in when you choose to take them out, theyre out in a few places on a few lakes.I came across one in lower polk co today that sunk through the ice by its runners and then the lake refroze. need less to say, I doubt theyll be able to save it from what I saw, but atleast they werent in it. safe fishin everybody.
