How do you guys run a Big Buddy with a 20 lb LP tank and get both burners going?

I’m not positive, but when I looked at buying them it seemed that you either could hook up two 20lb tanks, or just run one side with one. I assume you could possibly work out an adapter to split the line to go to both sides?

The other thing that everyone seemed to say was that you should either use a regulator or filter with 20lb tanks, and turn the gas off at the tank when shutting it down.

no…. you only hook up the 20 on one side… It will burn one or two burners depending on how hot you want the setting…it works absolutely great …and the D batteries will actually last about 3 full days of fishing, and the fan helps circulate the heat. just make sure you keep your connections tight.. i learned that the hard way last year and had a flareup. fastest I ever got out of a shack in a hurry…….

You are absolutely correct, one side will run 2 burners. If we ever get some ice in ill i might use mine. GREAT heater

You should use a filter between the buddy and the hose or they also sell a hose that does not require a filter. There were apparently some issues with certain hoses contaminating the heater and it would stop working, thus the need for the filter.

I also read where it was oil from the larger tanks that was doing it, not sure what causes the problem but Mr. Heater suggests using a filter or the proper hose. It will say right on the package when you buy the hose if it doesn’t require the filter.

I bought a big buddy hose with a regulator at the ice show. It’s got an attachment that hooks on one side to a nipple fitting on the Big Buddy – not where you screw in the 1 pound tanks – and it works great. Don’t need a filter. I think you can also buy a hose that screws directly onto where the one pound tanks go, and as long as it’s the official Big Buddy hose, you don’t need a filter.

Filter not needed, but recommended. Both burners only work on “high”, not low or medium, regardless if you’re using 1# or bulk propane tank. Thats the difference in the 3 different BTU ratings. Great heater, but a little tempermental…..saw dozens returned at Gander back in the day, but the ones that work are great!

I use the hydraulic hose one end with the 20 lb tan. You will need both small green bottles if you want to run it on high also.
