Found some gils on a crib in 14′, hooked into a large fish that got off after a few minute fight, hole hopped a little then came back to the hot hole and as soon as the jig got near the bottom I hooked into another large fish, well 10 minutes later I dragged the beast onto the ice, just under 20″ and 4.7# according to the deliar scale. Caught on 2# test. Fish is still happily swimming for someone else on some other day

Lake Eau Claire, it was a blast catching it. She was pretty wore out because I had to play her so much. Moved around alot today and was actually walking back to call it a day when I came across a set of holes froze over patterned like a crib. Sure enough it was, and in the next two hours I pounded quite a few nice gils crappie and perch plus the bonus pictured above.

Nice smallmouth, good job letting it go.

I have always wanted to catch a smallie through the ice! I don’t know where to look, I’m pretty sure on the river they are in the current where the ice is generally pretty poor.
