Just used my new LX-5 for the first time and need to know about the zoom feature. I was fishing in 18′ of water and had in 20′ mode. When I hit the zoom I could see the jig and the fish on the right side of the screen but nothing would show up on the left side of the screen. Called Marcum and they said next time in that depth try the 40′ mode, does that seem right? Also when I turned the zoom on the SFL came on without hitting the button, am I doing something wrong. I haven’t bought a new flasher since the fl-8 in 1991.

The zoom window needs to be moved…after you hit the zoom button, hit the down arrow till u get the area you want to zoom in on. Good luck!

The SFL display is an automatic feature in the zoom mode, increases your target seperation within that zoom window.

When you turned on the zoom did you move the 2 yellow flashing lines to the part of the water column you wanted to view on the left side of the screen?

Thanks guys for the fast response, I do feel kind of stupid asking these questions. The old fl-8 all I did was turn it on and fish.

Nope, guess I should read the manual before getting in such a hurry to use the new toy! On a good note it did mark the walleyes I was catching

Anybody know why they didn’t design the thing to have the zoom window automatically start at the bottom? I just think its odd because you have to move it down every single time, unless you are catching them right under the ice of coarse…

If you’re looking at 25′ bottom and want to zoom. Starting the zoom at bottom of 40′ makes less sense. Not even looking at water, now.

It’s just annoying that everytime you turn the zoom off an on it’s starts back at the top. It would be nice to have it remember your last zoom setting and give you the option for zoom reset.

I would imagine that the adjustable zoom anywhere in the water column was best designed or engineered to start at the zoom at the top of the water column and a person could adjust accordinly to where ever they wanted the zoom window to be. You could also adjust to a 10′ zoom window by pressing the zoom button again and have a bigger zoom area. This would also allow you not to have to hold the down button very long with a 10′ zoom window.
