Finally had a chance to drill a few holes with the new Strike Lite this weekend. What an auger, light and quiet. The question I have and maybe its just me, but when I break through the ice into water this auger binds like no other? This is the first year in about 5 years that I have not drilled with a 4 blade which had zero binding issues. Does anyone else notice the binding on there strike lite drills? I even had a few times where the drill would continue to pull downward in a big way, the ice was only 10″. Maybe I am doing something wrong?
Good thing the fish were biting.

I had a SL before and didn’t have an issue like that. I have noticed with the SOLO augers that I try to let up a bit when it’s going to break thru otherwise that will pull a guy down to the ice.

Enjoy the Strike Lite. They are quiet, light and have plenty of torque to get thru the ice.

Cal, I had the same problem with my Stike Lite. I read a few things about the pitch being off on some drills. I brought my auger into D-Rock last week and they checked the pitch and said it was fine. They then called Strikemaster and they were told to put a new drill on the auger. I used it this weekend and it seemed to work much better. It still got caught once but we probably drilled a hundred holes this weekend so the new drill must have fixed something.

I think I seen you at Prince Bait Saturday morning.

I have the same issue with my Solo 8″ Laser, seems I have to really feather it through the last couple inches of ice to prevent it from grabbing. It’s like one side breaks through and the blade just follows the 1/2 hole opening and wants to wind the auger down the hole.

So you just took it back to strikemaster and they gave you a different drill? I was at Prince’s Bait on Saturday. In fact most saturday mornings I will make a stop at Prince’s Bait. Next time say hello.

No, they put on a new drill at D-Rock. The tech at D-Rock called Strikemaster and was told to switch out the drill. They did it all right at D-Rock. It was much closer for me than Big Lake.

Some times you don’t recognize people from their avatar. I put two and two together when I saw your crappie picture. I will say hi next time.

Thats what I did, I switched out “for a one time deal” to the metal from the synthetic on the og Strike Lite. My synthetic would bind bad and ended up breaking. BUT as always 10 minutes in the Big Lake HQ and I was walkin out a happy guy, I have never left there unhappy!

I should mention that I don’t have the composite drill. I have the metal laser drill.

So do I, with the yellow stripe. I guess I will be stopping at Big Lake tonight before daycare.

Make sure the blades are tight. That is all it took to fix my binding problem.

Tighten your screws and drink some prune juice, right Bret!!!

I will check the screws on the blades before Big Lake.

I picked up a used SLII with composite blade, and over the weekend, it did not want to pull me into the ice like my brother’s LazerMag with solo does…

So last night I checked the blades, I was able to turn each bolt/screw about 1 full turn to get completely tight, maybe a litte more than a full turn. I will test out this week and report back if that was the fix or not.

    Thanks Bret.
