Just got back from Morris Point Resort. 9 of us in 7 houses. ATV and snowmobile traffic only allowed, no wheel houses either. We found 8 1/2″ of ice every hole we drilled. Very rough ice for the first 300 yards then it’s the smoothest ice I have ever seen on the lake. No snow on the ice. Some smaller pressure cracks.
Fished from 17 to 22 fow. The evening bite was the hottest walleye fishing of my life. Nonstop action for up to 2 hours. Some spots we were getting many small fish among the keepers. I have never released as many 14-16″ fish as I did on this trip. Monday evening I had my set line up with a fish on the floor for about 20 minutes as I caught fish as fast as I could get my jigging line down. Lots of chunky 16-22″. For bigger fish we had two just under 28 and 6 or 8 around 24″. Sauger in the mix as well. Live shiners, frozen shiners, fatheads all worked well. I got the most fish jigging a gold Slender Spoon and a rainbow colored Forage Minnow. Not sure if it mattered what bait I used. When the fish come up 5′ off the bottom to hit your jig you know they are in a feeding mood. Bobber set line with a live minnow on a plain hook did as well as the jigging line. Seemed like every one was doing well. The cleaning shack was standing room only waiting for a spot to open several evenings. A great trip, best ever for numbers.
