With the crappy ice weather forecasted through thursday, how do you guys think the rain will affect the ice conditions. I was hoping to get out in western WI this weekend, but I don’t know if it’ll be thick enough
Any thoughts?

I would say with last nights and todays rain along with 25 mph winds it will be gone. I’m going to run by a local lake at lunch time to see how bad it is.
Jake, was out on the Wolf River in Fremont yesterday, had to break some shelf ice, and ran the boat slowly up and down river to open up the river. Thickest ice I saw was 2 1/2 ” it was breaking up and floating down river where the current slows and was piling up. but with it raining most all night and todays forecast for more rain. my guess is the ice in the river and ajoining bays will be history..
Where I fished on Pool 9 Sunday and Monday there was no more than 4 inches, 2 in some spots. I thinkmost is unsafe now. While they are talking lows in the teens and low 20’s for a few nights, it still is supposed to be sunny and in the 30’s during the day. Not good for making safe ice. I’m very bummed. I am going to get paid tomorrow. Was going to go and get myself the Marcum VX-1 Pro. I was hoping to be able to use it this weekend on a small pond near my house. Don’t know if that will happen now.
Northern most WI here all the inland lake are not safe anymore wait a bit. Need some very cold weather and fast!
If we could get very cold weather fast, it might be best thing for us, but some very good looking ice on Lake Minocqua looked pretty bad yesterday!!!

The best starting ice in years is going away . I suppose it will start to snow when the ice is a booming !
Hey guys, I live in Central WI and I have an ice trip planned for this weekend 20 miles east of Eau Claire. The house my friend has is on a channel to Lake Eau Claire. It is about 100 yards wide with a depth of 4-8′. Am I crazy to think that we will be on solid ice?
Supposed to get an inch of snow tonight and then cold. A lot of things bad regarding this weather, but as I look across the street at Rollie and Helen’s Musky Shop, there are still trucks pulling in to get minnows/bait and pulling back out, so there a few spots that must have enough ice…

Was on Lake EC in the rain Monday, was very slow the lake was full of water but the ice was still good enough for a 4 wheeler, I myself am a walker and my legs still hurt I put on so many miles and I play round ball at the Y 4-6 hours a week. Summary: Lake EC was very sloppy and had 3-5 inches of ice. I’d hit the cribs if the ice is still safe
I wouldnt fish where I fished last Thur. Guess I will get to hit ‘first ice’ again there. Hope she’s solid by the holidays.
I fished a spot in Pool 9 Monday. Today, the 14th unsafe. I saw 5 guys out on Pool 10 the 13th, I checked it today and two punches with the spud poked right through. I didn’t risk it.

Fished La Crosse area ice today, Stoddard to be exact. There was 4″ of clear ice everywhere we went. Unfortunately it is very soft and you can poke the spud through in one hit with ease. It didn’t move much under you feet but I felt like we were definitely walking the line of being dry and wet most of the day Tomorrow should help reconsolidate things a bit but I’m not sure it will be enough. The shorelines are beat to heck and anywhere with weeds is very sketchy! I’m going to play Wii and eat food all day tomorrow Sure wish I would have brought the open water rods home for winter break, the Ranger looks bored in the garage…
I heard two guys went through on Prior Lake while drilling holes
