I have the go ahead to buy one or the other, I will be getting a Marcum of either variety. I mostly fish for pan fish in the winter. So the question is if you could have only one, would it be a camera or a Flasher?

Flasher far and away, doesnt have the potential to spook fish, works just as good at night as during day and also doesnt need water clarity, cams are cool but FOR ME more of a search tool.

I would agree with WB for all the reasons he mentioned, with the exception of the day/night reason. MarCums line works just as good day or night.

But back to your question, a flasher can see through ice (checking for fish below without drilling a hole) and can see through muddy/stained water.

    Flasher first.

I would tell her you are buying a MarCum VS825SD camera. Then buy a MarCum VS625SD camera and a used flasher for the same price. She’ll never be the wiser.

48 hour rule eh? I have been blessed with a smart wife, and this might not pass. One piece at a time. Looks like the Flasher crowd has won, now which one to buy?

Also, all of the Marcum line should work with the us2 on the trolling motor, right?

Hard to beat the 5s but the lx 7 looks sick but way out of my price range, I ordered a Bird Ice 55, huge screen 6 colors.

I have an LX-5 and think its great. No desire at this point to upgrade to the new LX-7. If I weren’t worried about cost and didn’t already have a flasher, I’d probably get an LX-7. But if you’re on a budget, I’d recommend getting a used LX-5 and a used camera. Flasher first by far.

Also, I’m pretty sure that you can’t hook up a marcum flasher to US2. You can connect a vexilar, but not a marcum. Sort of a bummer. If I’m wrong, please correct me so I can go get a US2 adapter for my LX-5!

No Doubt with the flasher first.. .camera second….

I had a lot of those same questions this weekend at Cabala’s..
what I told them that the flasher would get them to each and every hole with ease.. and that the camera is pretty easy but just a fraction more set up time..

Once you have a flasher… get a camera..

When I head out I hole hop a lot… I set up my Otter as a home base… pop a dozen hole to share with the neighbors and myself… I would put the camera in the house and hole hop with the LX-5 (soon to be LX-7)

The camera will tell you a lot about whats under the hard cover…but a must is the LX5

I have both like a few other people do. I would get the flasher first. I have the 825 and on LOW you can’t really use it because of the stained water, so this is where the flasher pays off. Don’t get me wrong, the kids love the camera in clear water on the High Def. and it si a blast to watch.

SJDobie9 off subject I know, but have you used the camera on your area lakes?

    Bell, Washington or even Stahls?

Yes I have. The water is clearer so it works well. Right now Marion is a little cloudy but still somewhat useful.

X10 for the flasher.I think used flashers hold their value better than camera?I have seen pre-Vexilar flashers going for 200.00 on fleabay

Now that Dave has a new hip he might be dangerous on perch water.

Cool, thanks! Any comments on a vx1 vs lx5? I have used a vexilar fl 22, it worked really well, but seemed like too much relative to what I would really need.
