Marcum Transducer

Was wondering if anyone has ever witnessed the tranducer getting stuck in the foam holding compartment? I kept my LX-5 indoors all summer and went to put the soft case back together last night only to find that my transducer was stuck in the foam holding compartment. After working the transducer back and forth I was finally able to get it loose only to find that the foam in the bottom of the holding compartment has stuck to my transducer. This is without a doubt going to effect the beam I would think, but what are my options of removing the foam from the bottom of my transducer (tried water and a rag)as it has a softer bottom and what type of reaction would cause this? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I have had this same problem in the past, however I lay the ducer on the side from now on or make sure to wipe with a dry rag to make sure all excess water is gone. Some foam on the bottom of the ducer will not greatly effect the reading of the ducer. I have peeled some of the foam off with my thumb once dry. It will never be 100% free of the foam, but I have not had any problems with the ducer with some foam on it.

Did the whole piece of foam come out?

I did do the same thing with my fingernail…I did whipe the entire unit down after use, so that is what had me a touch concerned. Good to hear it should not effect as I would be lost without that thing.

To answer your questions. No, only half of the foam peeled away from the holder. Thanks Calvin! I will test it out today.

No problem, I have it frozen on a trip to Canada, I had to set up my fish house and turn the heater on HI for about 15 minutes to get it to melt before the ducer would come out. Meanwhile fishing buddies are spanking the fish while I am thawing out my LX-5.

Mine did the same thing. Now I put it a kids soft sock. I also use the sock to wipe it off before putting it away. Works for me now, beside I think it protect the puck a little.

What would happen if you used a sharp razor blade?

You would need to be very careful not to cut into the ducer, if your good with a razor blade I am sure it could be done to clean off the excess foam, but really no reason to risk cutting into the ducer or your finger in my opinion.

I had the same prob last year. I think i used goo gone and got most of the foam off. Never had a problem with the signal. This past summer i put tin foil in the nest to stop it from sticking.
