How Fast Will The Ice Actually Form?

I’ve been looking at the forecast for Central Minnesota and the next few days are supposed to be cold but after that we’re seeing highs in the upper 20s and lows in the low 20s/upper teens. My question is: if we get a stretch of weather where the high is close to 30 and the low is about 20, how much ice will we actually see being made?

I’ve got the fever to get out there but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I think more importantly is how much wind will there be…Wind=tough to make ice…RR

You can try and cipher how fast ice will grow on any given lake and you would be wrong most of the time. Nothing beats a good spud, a buddy with along rope, lifejacket and picks this time of year. I usually wait to see others out and spud anyway. It never hurts to check ice conditions and to call the local bait shops. I used to be fearless and now I’m a father so I’m much more careful. No pannies are worth a December swim.
