Well I made it out over the weekend to a smaller shallow lake after finding the wind has spoiled my other go to lakes, No prob, I’ll be able to hit them sometime this late week for the first real fish on trips. It was a blast just to get out and check some ice and wet a line, and turn the old VX1 on befor I mount it lol! I have had it for some time now and put it through everything and it still ticks like the day I took it out of the box. Along for the first trip out my good friend and fellow guide and my dog who loves to clean out the holes from ice chunks. Well travel light, rod, pfd, rope, ice spikes, and a SPUD BAR. Check the ice often as you step out. Well to this point everything is going well, I am finding 3 to 3 1/2 inches all over the little lake. So now I start to chop open some holes so we can start hunting down some nice slabs hmm sounds easy. Well after choping open a few holes and droping the puck and talking with my fishing partner. I some how sliped my hand out from the rope loop on my spud bar not even seeing it with fish on the mind now. I move about 10 feet into the weeds into a pocket find fish start to chop a nice little gill hole and would you know it the bar slips right from my hand and here it go’s down my 2 inch wide hole to the bottom. Fact of the story is for years guys who asked to use my spud bar I have always told them to put the rope around there wrist because I have seen guys drop them through your not going to drop mine to the bottom, lol and here I do it. Well we will be back out at it after today, more spud bars in hand and my hand auger in the truck on shore.
