Otter resort OLD SCHOOL

Hey Guys, I just made a deal on an Otter Resort flip style portable. The price was right, about what just the sled goes for now. The material is in good condition with just 2 small holes I can glue a patch over. Anyone fish out of these?
Anything you can tell me? Good, bad or indifferent? These uninsulated shacks must have worked for quite a few years keeping the weather off. And I save enough to buy a used LX-5. I won’t be state of the art, but I never have been. In fact I have mostly lived in the State of confusion.

The fish don’t care what it looks like and who cares what others think of it…as long as it keeps you warm and dry fish on…enjoy! IMO, Otter makes the #1 portable house on the market so you’re already way ahead of others in the game.

How old is “old school”? Is it purple…or green?

I have had both a purple otter (which I still use a ton) and green otter.
They were both awesome tents. The purple one is still in excellent shape and still exceeds my expectations. It has been to winnipeg with -30 for a high, and kept me warm and alive. Poles kept working when moving spots, and has kept a lot of gear safe over the years.

It sounds like you got a great deal on an Otter! And I am sure it will serve you very well!

This is a purple one. What did you find different between the two?

I bought a new old stock green cabin off of ebay a few years ago. It has round poles and I am reasonably sure that the purple canvas shelters have square poles. Wish I had purple…

I have been using the purple otter resort II for years, I like it. It does not have as thick of canvis as some of the new ones but still keeps me warm. the big size gives me a lot of fishing room, the length of the sled is almost 84 inches. Mine has the round poles. Have fun with your new purchases

Poles, and design/features mainly. Each year the guys at otter continue to make them tougher, stronger, and smarter.

Purple is older and has round poles. Green is a few years newer and should have square poles. There may be some green ones with round poles. I have a purple one that has served me very well for the last 12 years but she is really starting to show her age now. I may need to learn how to sew and put on new skirting.

Congratulations Norge!! With proper care the Weekend angler can expect many years of service out of the Otter Portable houses. My first Otter house was draped with Purple canvas. The purple coloration dotted many areas lakes. This Just goes to show those houses are built to last. With proper care you’ll get many more years of fishing out of it. I’m adding Hyfax to my Otter Sleds this season. I drag my sleds down my driveways and over blacktop roads in some cases. This really protects your sled itself.

I sold my purple otter last year. It was about 5 or 7 years old I think and it had square poles.

I was thinking the opposite? My purple otter has square poles, and a newer design, than the green one. The green one had older seats and circular poles.

I have an OLD purple – I bought it USED 10 yrs ago. It has round poles. The elastic that holds it tight to sled keeps getting a little looser every year, but other than that, it is just right.
