Can’t fix stupid

Excuse my disgust here. I guess you simply cannot fix stupid. I just took a triple take observing a vehicle located in a bay just off the landing. You’ll clearly note open water on a small current run close by. Though the bay isn’t deep in nature the landings always have some depth from powerloading boats alone.

The good thing is this guy saved himeself at least 30 feet of walking by parking on the ice rather than on the landing. LORD help these people. As a full-time fishing guide giving the ice a couple more days before I walk out to a few early season spots;I must be a complete Panzy.

! wow. if you can take a vehicle out on 5-6″ of ice, does this mean i can walk on the 1/2″ ice that I just spudded 10 minutes ago?

But the upside is it will make a nice fish crib.

Just think how proud he will be telling all his drinking buddy’s he was the first to drive on the ice!

Since I recognize the bay and also know where you took the photo from I’m surprised the vehicle is still on top of the ice.

Makes you wonder how they lived this long.

the only problem is that these people are not removed from the breeding pool.

It’s right in front of our home. We live on Tilson Bay Timmy. The bay is very shallow normally and more shallow this year due to our low water. I’m simply amazed. 3 or 4 days ago 2 spud pokes struck paydirt. I’m tempted to go over there and drill a hole. My guess is 4 inches of ice close to shore out of the current in that particular spot.

And to think I roll my windows down “just in case” in the dead of winter on 2 feet of ice. I am a panzy.

He was proabably safe as long as he had his arm out the window checking the conditions with a spud

Unfortunately, technology and modern medicine have rendered mother nature’s remedy useless.

NOT TO WORRY BOYS!! I underestimated the ice thickness. It took nearly 4 pokes with the “Widow Maker” to strike water. After a quick measurement hoping the vehicle wouldn’t bring me down in the vortex I taped 4 1/2 inches. Granted the top 3 inches is a poor milky quality as you can see, but I didn’t want anyone to lose sleep tonight. OK due to the serious danger in this matter I better include this disclaimer; THAT is ridiculous, and I recommend WALKING out on first ice.

BTW as I was spudding the hole a truck drove past me on the road hollering “GRANRUD YOU CRAZY ******!!” LOL!! Not sure who it was, but he was obviously a big fan; We appreciate his support

WOW, 4 1/2″ inches (the way guys measure) doesn’t seem like much.

Wonder what his insurance agent would say if he saw that?

Justin, is their a stupidity clause in auto insurance??

Your passerby might have thought that vehicle belonged to you or Cheryl.

Now with that close up picture you can clearly see its the wifes car that is out on the ice. That means this guy is not a complete idiot. There is a small trace of common seance left in there.

Maybe it’s a guy who’s just looking to upgrade to a real icefisherman’s vehicle and get a full size truck

I thought insurance doesn’t cover a vehicle that goes through the ice?

Then again, I have a back up plan with my truck loan. If it is totaled, they pay off the rest of the payments. Hmm, I think those smart cars look pretty sharp.

It depends on your insurance company as to whether your covered on the ice. I believe State farm covers you one time if I’m correct. As far as contacting authorities; That’s a good question. The Park Service or local law enforcement will often block public access points with thin ice warnings towards spring. Not sure what these guys were possibly thinking today. just the fact that when they got on the ice they parked feet away from the access?? Why would you risk that?? UNREAL. I do hope they don’t build confidence overnight and take it one step further tomorrow. We’ll be fishing them out sooner or later.
