I was pondering the idea of heading north with a few buddies to Find some ice saturday. The smaller lakes surrounded by trees were frozen last weekend of deer season with a good solid inch n a half of ice on most. gotta be some fishable ice somewhere up there. anyone got any ice reports from the Aitkin area? Much appreciated!

What lakes were you wondering about? I could maybe check tomorrow. Mille is open, we had the boat out today just cause we had to go fishing

How’d you do?
I’ll be up in two weekends either walking out on Mille Lacs or a smaller lake if need be.

An ebonics version of the old football saying “the ______ absolutely pounded the urine out of the vikings”

bigpikePosts: 6259December 3, 2011 at 9:11 pm #1014224Did make it out today, we struck out in the first location, ice was barely good enough to walk on. Was amazed to see a man and a little kid fishing next to each other When I tried getting out to the area I wanted to get to it started thinning out on what was 3 spud ice. Maybe an inch of good ice in the areas it was good. Moved 30 miles north to fish a backwater area of the Chip. Once again 1″ of ice. We fished it but it was sketchy. Caught our 25 and went home. This area has alot of sorting but the crappies can run big. A few nice crappies were had. Still very early and this snow wont help the areas we fished today. Little ice seen between spots on Wissota and Chip. Was very nice to get out
December 4, 2011 at 1:32 am #1014236i as well made it out today, we fished three different lakes in the Onamia area, first lake we hit was Shakopee lake, we had six inches of good ice, there were TWO FOUR WHEELERS out there! a bit crazy if you ask me. the fishing was slow caught some smaller pirch and two northerns. We left and headed to a real small lake tucked away in the forest called horseshoe. This was a lake we that we had no idea what to make of it. no public access,we managed to find 28 feet of water and graph a few fish but no takers and the ice was barely thick enough to walk on,so we decided to save the rest of the small lake for another day. Off to the next lake we went. We went to Platt lake, this was our best decision all day. there was four to five inches across the entire lake. we managed a dozen decent crappies and 8 medium size Northerns. Fish were lethargic and many were just lokers. All in all good day on the ice.
