Just wondering if the lakes in Polk Co. are starting to glaze over yet? I have the itch so bad I may have to go see the doc.

Unfortunately not yet. I was at the cabin this past Sunday and Big Blake had no ice on it anywhere. By the way hi Donnie. And I’m impatiently waiting for it to ice up in that area as well.

    Hi Jeff,
Sorry we didn’t get a chance to fish pool 4 this summer. With all the high water, etc…it just didn’t work out for me. In fact, I only made about 8 trips out there, pretty sad.
I’d really like to hit the early ice this year, keep me posted and I’ll show you where I get the nice perch up there.
    Bring on the ice!!!!
BTW, are you going to the Ice show this weekend?

All of the pot holes and bigger ponds were frozen over on the way home from work (Milltown to New Richmond) tonight!

We’re getting closer…here in the Northwoods the lakes locked up some last night after a 14 degree low, but it’s snowing now and ominous predictions of real snow this weekend. Pray for cold and no snow for a week, we’ll be golden by then!

UPDATE: I have it on good authority that a couple of guys have ventured out on the back bays of the Rainbow flowage in my area, as well as another lake. They have bigger nards or smaller brainpans than me, can’t decide which.
Most smaller lakes are barely locked or still have open spots…I expect to be on some type of ice by Sunday but it’ll be SMALL water and probably won’t venture far. I’ll post an update if I don’t drown or anything…

Walked out from a couple of ramps on smaller lakes Friday night…didn’t have a spud bar so didn’t go far. One had a couple of test holes drilled for me, looked to have about 3″ of ice near shore. Firm reports of guys out of Crescent and Thunder…will be scouting tomorrow, but looking at 4″ of new snow on the ground and still falling. Doesn’t look good.

Updated Monday-walked out on that same lake again last night and drilled 3 quick holes…found 3″ of solid ice under the snow and slush. 0 here this morning and supposed to stay that way the rest of the week. Finally we’re trying to make ice!
Even with that, we’ve got snow cover and iffy conditions at best until recently…go easy and remember your safety stuff!

Thanks for the info guys! With a name like reverend, I didn’t think you needed ice?
I’ll be heading that way this Sunday with trekr200 to check the ice conditions first hand, he’s got the itch too. Won’t be long now if it stays cold.
    Bring on the ice!!!!

I wish! First names Jim-remember the TV show taxi and “Reverend” Jim Ignatowski? Old nickname hung on me in my younger, crazier days. Makes a decent login handle though. Where you coming from? I’ll try and give you a better update later in the week.

Nevermind-Redwing, I see it now! Either way, let me know where you’re wanting to go and I’ll try to get some ice conditions updated by the weekend.

Fished a 400 acre lake this evening-this one was locked up when we got the snow, so it’s well insulated. Found a steady 3″ under the snow out to about 250 yds-as far as I went. No fish, but I FINALLY got to sit out on the ice and stare down a hole! Lakes that weren’t frozen or very thin at snow time should be better, but still be damn careful!

We are starting to get some venturers up here in Minocqua… Talked with a friend who was going to perch fish today on ice he had checked yesterday. I might make it out on Sunday, just have to tape the Packers… Actually saw one guy out on Schoolhouse Bay this morning on a trip to the north.

Saw guys walking off of Julia this morning, and I had 5″ of good ice on a smaller 40 acre lake tonight. Getting better…
