I was talking to a SM rep the other day at the Gander first ice expo. I asked him about the auger spinning on my Solo while in idle. He simply showed me that the idle was set too high and all you needed to do was back out that screw a little bit. The screw is located under the muffler you will see a little black screw. Easy fix. Now my auger doesn’t spin while in idle. Thought I could share this with others who have had the same problem.

    good fishin. Matt P

good info, icekid. Now if I just had a SM Solo. I’ve got an older SM Mag that’s got more years on it than I can remember accurately, but it just won’t die. Maybe next year. Heard good things about the Solo. thanks for the tip.

The older ones last what seems like forever if you take care of them. I love my Solo. I was using my Grandpa’s hand-me-down from I dont know when. It was old and heavy and didn’t fit my style of fishing so I up-graded when they came out with the solo and they are worth every penny. 7″ bit with the 2.5hp motor. Its fast…

i also have a solo i got 2 years ago. its my first power auger and i love it. question is there is 2 screws for the high and low idle right? after the first year i had to use some adjusting to the screws to get it running and stay running then ran like a champ again. just wanted to know if this common after you break the new auger in? also i had to rig a tool for the d-shaped screws. did you use a certain tool or how did you turn the d-shaped screws? thanks for sharing.

Sorry I miss spoke the screw is under the side with the choke and primer button. It is on the underside. Right below the blue button. It is a small black screw. I just used a flat head screwdriver and backed it out 1/2 a turn or so until the spinning stopped.

Just stuck $40 in gaskets and filter and filter cover. Mine should be good for another 10 years or so. I hope it never dies. They can lay it next to me in my grave!

For $40, makes me cringe thinking what you might do if it would have cost $60 or $70
