Thinking about an eskimo shark z51 with 8″ bit. Will be my first power auger. Any thoughts on how it performs. The only other power augers I have used are the older lazers by strikemaster.

I’d be curious to hear others opinions before I pull the trigger.

I have an older Eskimo 8900 with the Tecumseh 49cc engine. It works great. I dont have any info on any of the newr ones.

For the money, Eskimo puts out a decent unit. My dad has a newer one. It has slow RPM’s, but very torque heavy. When the blades are sharp, that thing really pulls. It is stubborn to start in really cold weather.

3 seasons on an eskimo mako, and works perfect. starts easily, cuts quick. and you can’t beat the price.

i’m not saying strikemaster isn’t worth the money, but is it worth the extra couple hundred bucks to get one?

I have fishing buddies who have eskimos and they really like them. I have the strikemaster and really like it also. They also like the lite but it is a little more expensive. I would have to say you couldn’t go wrong with one especially if limmited amount of funds are available.

I bought a Stingray for this up coming season, it started easy when I was playing with it. I read alot of reviews and heard very little bad about the Mo. If you decide to get one I can give a link to some discounted prices on them, just send me a pm if interested.

I’ve talked to some people that really like their Eskimo augers and others have decided to switch to something faster.

From what I’ve seen if you only drill 10-20 holes a day an Eskimo would be a perfect fit. If you’re one of those guys that like to run and gun 100+ holes a day. Then a faster more powerful auger would be worth it’s wait in gold.

IMO, if price is an issue, look at a 2 year old used StrikeMaster. It’ll probably still last you a lifetime and then you have the best money can buy.
