How to protect my investment

I have never owned a hard shell rod box. I have owned some soft sided rod carriers and still have a pair of them that work great for my shorter rods, but with a 32″Powernoodle and 36″Quiverstick rod coming from Thorne Bros,I need something bigger.

I have been to Cabela’s looking at the Otter Rod box and the size (40″ Long x 13″ Wide x 5″ Deep) will work out great for my one man Otter Pro. I may even be able to put 2 additional rods in as well… Will have to see once the TB’s rods show up…

Protect your investment..this is something I have been told since I was a young boy… I will take that lesson to one of my favorite hobbies !!

They are AMAZING! I just filled my Otter rod box up with 5 rods last night, all rigged up and ready to go! Plan on hitting the ice wednesday morning. This rod case makes a guy not have to worry about broken rods or reels ever again!

I can’t put a value on my boxes from otter. They have saved my rods so many times!

Well worth the money given the cost of replacing a good ice combo these days

In speaking with folks at Otter this summer, there was mention of a rod case design change. I guess the older cases, when mounted to the Otter Box, would sometimes open do to bouncing around. Does anybody know if the latch changes have been rolled out? I was holding off getting a box until the new design showed up.

I think Joel Nelson just got a new Otter Rod case… if he sees this I’m sure he will check his case to see if the latch has been changed.

Good question Chris. At first glance in comparing mine to my old one, I couldn’t see a difference. So I talked to the folks at Otter. It seems like this is only an issue on the Otter Monster Box mounted ones as you said, and then, only if you’re running extremely hard in uneven terrain. More of a vibration issue than anything. There have been thoughts of putting a pin in there to lock the case, and I’m guessing this is a mod you could add very easily on your own right now. Unless you do that, or until a design change comes out, a simple bungee does the trick!

Joel–That was my thought as well but Troy was actually the one who suggested waiting so I thought there might be something more being changed. Thanks.
